"Democrat John Gomes, who has been critical of the mayor's seeming reluctance to urge Ayala to resign her seat in the face of the elections probe, said he knows the family."
"Obviously, it's a sad moment for the (Ayala) family," Gomes said. "It's a sad moment for politics in Bridgeport."
Gomes referred to the fact that other Bridgeport politicians, past and present, have been accused of living out of their districts as well, but have never been caught.
"I honestly hope this serves as a lesson for other politicians who are, allegedly, doing the same thing," Gomes said.
"Bridgeport has had a long history of that. We sweep it under the rug and ignore it. People play politics here according to their rules, not the rules made up in Hartford."

Meet Peter Lumaj
Peter Will Stop Voter Fraud

Scandals such as the one depicted above are among the many reasons Peter Lumaj decided to run for office. Peter, an attorney-at-law, was born and raised in communist Albania. Lack of freedom and opportunity in his homeland led Peter and his three brothers, Tony, Paul and Fred to settle in the United States. They left behind their parents and their seven other siblings, who suffered severe persecution in the hands of the communist government.
Once in the United States, Peter learned English and enrolled in the City University of New York (CUNY). Peter graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. While attending CUNY, he worked as a porter and a doorman to support his family and to pay for his education. Later, Peter enrolled in the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. While attending law school, he worked as a fraud investigator in the Giuliani administration.
Peter Lumaj decided to run for Connecticut Secretary of the State because he is concerned about the future of Connecticut and of our country. He sees the United States quickly moving towards the same Eastern European style authoritarinism he fled from nearly 26 years ago. Drawing from his past experiences, Peter is deeply concerned about the lack of transparency and accountability in the Secretary of the State’s office; he understands the importance of maintaining a free society with free and honest elections. Peter believes citizens are guaranteed fundamental sovereign rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as stated in the founding documents of our country and our state.
Peter resides in Fairfield and is married to Mary. They have three children, Frank, Amy, and Larisa.
